The Foxtrot dance is a smooth dance that "travels" around the dance floor in a counter clock wise direction. It is one of the most popular social dances in the Oahu night club scene and it is usually the very first dance taught at most American Style dance studios. The most common way of count on Oahu is the Arthur Murray method, Slow, Slow, Quick, Quick. Where the slow takes up 2 beats and the quick takes up 1 beat.

The basic step of the Foxtrot. the lead starts with the left forward, 1, 2 and right side step, 3 and then close with his left foot, 4. The ladies start with their right foot back and a side step, and then close. This develops into the next half for a box step. The lead step back on his right foot S, a left side step and close QQ. The follow steps forward on her left foot S, a right side step and close QQ. This completes the box.

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—In what may be the most serious allegation ever made against the former Secretary of State, Fox News Channel reported today that Hillary Clinton was involved in the conspiracy to murder the Republican President Abraham Lincoln.

The latest charge against Mrs. Clinton was reported by Fox host Sean Hannity, who said that the evidence of her role in the Lincoln assassination came mainly in the form of e-mails.

According to Mr. Hannity, “If it’s true that Hillary Clinton killed Lincoln, this could have a major impact on her chances in 2020.”

The accusation against Mrs. Clinton drew a strong response from Sen. Lindsey Graham (R.—-S. Carolina): “There’s been a concerted effort by Hillary Clinton to cover up her role in President Lincoln’s murder. She has said nothing about it. This is bigger than Watergate, the Cuban missile crisis, and the Second World War put together.”

Responding to the allegation, Mrs. Clinton issued a terse statement indicating that she could not have participated in Lincoln’s assassination because she was born in 1947.

“That’s what she wants us to believe,” Sen. Graham said.

"And the Trump Truth Brigade marches on."

Our kind of dance music is enjoying a resurgence across the United States and it is happening here on Oahu too. And in this century, there has been an increase in the recognition of the Oldies But Goodies in Music. Now many of us are able to get a few choice social dance songs for our own private hearing pleasure. We're sure that anyone would want to keep pace with the rhythms of the dance with this music. And most of the DJ's have their own versions of music for listening or dancing and on Oahu, they are very up to date. And no one can say they are right or wrong. Honest opinions should be respected. And that goes both ways.

Wahiawa Ballroom Dance Club is still bouncing around from the great Oktoberfest Dance which was one happy occasion for the entire Central Valley. One of these days we are going to get a social dance club in Mililani, where I live or in Waipio which would be just as good. There are dancers from Town coming to dances in West Oahu beside the ones that live in the West. We are also due for a dance club in the Waianae Coast and one on the North Shore. I think it will happen first on the North Shore, but what do I know?

Watching the action at the WBDC dance Saturday, I was fortunate to see some good social dancers. They were enjoying the movement to that good music and having the fun with a partner. The line dances were interesting even for us the audience to watch too. Even when making mistakes they were enjoying the dance. That is social dancing, that perfect combination of physical activity, social interaction, and mental stimulation, and it can bring so much to any ones' life.

Week Ending Saturday, Sept 21st, 2019

In this century many have been asked to explain the difference between social and ballroom dance, or even if there is any difference. It's not answerable in a short conversation, so we try to stick a little here and there, now and then. The entire World of Dance, social and ballroom are considered siblings. Yes, siblings are known to fight, but they can also be mutually supportive, especially as they grow older. Valuing other's truths is a sign of maturity and that makes answering these questions difficult. Everyone has their own definition of "ballroom dance." There is no official governing board to set parameters and limits on dancing. Even within competition ballroom dancers, two dancers may have opposing priorities, aesthetics and values.

on stress reduction. Experience shows that moving to music with

others expands their sense of social connections.

Hip hop dance:
This refers to street dance styles primarily performed by "late teen and early twenty" dancers, to hip-hop music or that have evolved as part of hip-hop culture. It was a break from traditional partner dancing and a declaration of independence for the young. It includes a wide range of styles primarily breaking, locking, and popping which were created in the 1970s and made popular by young dance people on the Mainland. Television showcased these dance styles in their early stages; therefore, giving hip-hop mainstream exposure.

In addition there have been thousands of Web and Blog sites on the mainland promoting the Fad. The dance industry responded with a commercial, studio - based version of hip-hop—sometimes called new style—and a hip-hop influenced style of jazz dance called jazz-funk. Classically trained dancers developed these studio styles in order to create choreography from the hip-hop dances that were performed on the street. There have always been transfers from high to lower forms and vice versa. On Oahu it has happened rather easily, because of this development, hip-hop dance is practiced in both dance studios and outdoor spaces.

What distinguishes hip-hop from other forms of dance is that it is often freestyle (improvisational) in nature and hip-hop dance crews often engage in freestyle dance competitions—colloquially referred to as battles. Crews, free styling, and battles are identifiers of this style. Hip-hop dance can be a form of entertainment or a hobby. On Oahu, the styles vary enormously from Waianae to the Windward side. But there has been a gradual synchronizing in town. It can also be a way to stay active in competitive dance and a way to make a living by dancing professionally.

Yes, Feedback is what we need. Prime would be any of the officers of any of the dance clubs, because they would contribute dance items with some authority. But I personally think that opinions are like noses, everyone has got one. We are not clones, so there is the value of all of our reader/dancers. We will probably get someone that just wants to say something one time, we provide the platform, and we get those now and then. Usually they think they can only do that one time. Fine, we have been fortunate to get those. Hopefully they will feel free to contribute more in the near future.

Our social dance music has traditionally been so graceful and good sounding that even die hards enjoying listening to it. When you get into moving to it you can become even more enthralled by the music. And you will keep itching to dance to it. Some of our up to date disc jockeys still do not recognize much reason for all this "Music of the 60s and 70s." When you attend any dance of any kind, all the dances you love and know from our big bands around the world are usually available for you to dance to. The Rumba, Waltz, Cha Cha Cha, Swing, Fox Trot, Tango, Samba - you've heard them all and they get better every time.We are getting into Social Dance Music.

Latin music and dance for the most part, refers to Latin America and the Iberian Peninsula. The cultural background includes artists from Latin America or artists with a Latin (Europe)/Latino (US) background. Language refers to Spanish and Portuguese. But for dancing in the US, most of the music narrows down to the Caribbean area. There are literally thousands of very good musical selections from outside this area mainly in Mexico and the ABC countries. Argentina, Brazil and Chile. And there is the Viña del Mar International Song Festival, a music festival that has been held annually during the 3rd week of February in Viña del Mar, Chile.

Viña del Mar-based artist Mon Laferte has been revealed as the first 2020 performer,

becoming the first Chilean artist to kick off the event in recent decades.

Started in 1960, it is the oldest and largest music festival in Latin America. Every year invited World Wide artists perform alongside Latin artists. There are also singing competitions with prizes for the winners. The Festival takes place in the Quinta Vergara Amphitheater and attracts over 15,000 spectators. It has been broadcast live on radio and on Chilean television over the years regularly breaking viewing records The Vina festival features a song competition in two categories, (pop music and folk music, interspersed with performances by international music stars encompassing such diverse genres as rock, and pop music in various languages, cumbia, salsa, reggaetón, bachata among others.

People see things and they say "Why?" But social dancers dream things

that never were and they say "Why not?"
