DAL Midweek, July 30th.

The new invention of the Line Dancers, the Playlist has been increasingly recognized as a terrific tool for pleasing the dancers. The people can see in advance the one they do not want to miss, because they want to move to that music. Not the beat. That is coming ever so slowly into our social dance scene. The hits on the blogs are holding steady but not good enough. The Feedback is what is lacking. I am limited in getting around. Hopefully we have plenty of social dancers out there willing to share some of their precious dance information with our fellow dancers. Now I am certain that the Information Contributors are what will make the blogs on Oahu.

"Our social dancers can remember when in their dance classes
“and” was a number."

So that leaves the solution quite evident, so many could find it easy to email a little information and a couple of photos now and then. It would do wonders for the readers of their club, the reader/dancers in general on this entire island and for the blogs. When they realized the success of their contributions, it would be relatively easy to become a Guest Author, and it would be completely their decision. Then they could get in the blog of their choice, write, post photos, publish and get out without having to say "boo" to anyone. It certainly would send the hits up through the roof on all the blogs. This is acknowledged in Blogging as Synergism.

"Ghost Riders In The Sky" by Johnny Cash.

Received from Maile Yagi
Latin music and Latin dance go together, better than peanut butter and jelly. They are not really a part of ballroom dancing, they are a separate function with their own kind of music. Even in our esteemed International Competitions, there is a long intermission between the Standard Division and the Latin Division. Custom made for Competition and Exhibition type dancing and they do very well, indeed. Changes of costumes and attitude are much in evidence. Dancers that dance to dance, are one kind of people. Dancers that enjoy moving to music to da max, are a little bit different, No hu hu.

Social dancing is danced for enjoyment, socialization, recreation and health. Somebody disagrees.? The test for social dancing success is how much the dance partners have enjoyed the dance - not how they have danced in the eyes of others or how "correctly" they have danced. The steps and techniques taught by one instructor can vary considerably from those taught by someone else. Social dancing is also dynamic and the types of social dances and styles change with the times. Can we live with it? Social Dancing.

Dance terminology is very well used and understood by many dancers. The misunderstandings are usually small and infrequent. Some are rarely use on Oahu. Aficionado: From the Spanish, an ardent devotee, a fan, an enthusiast of the dance and naturally, an amateur. Many professionals prefer to distinguish themselves from ordinary mortals and we agree. Alternate Turns: Can occur in probably 1000 different world dances, first one partner turns, usually the lady and then the man turns and the turns are usually outside turns. What is an Outside Turn? Hah !

DAL Midweek, July 16th.

The most important part of our blogs is the opinion of the Guest Bloggers which like it or not, is an editorial opinion. It is the stated opinion of the blogger for anything he or she writes in the blog. And it can vary widely which is what makes it most interesting to our fellow reader/dancers and the hits go through the roof. Often people that say they “don’t care” actually do. The moment they discuss you with their friends and family, compete with you, bad mouth you to others or react to anything you do or say, is when they give themselves away. You can either be saddened or flattered that you have affected someone so much. Blogging is out in the open.

"Social dancers believe that love may be a lot like dancing,
we just surrender and move to the music."

The perspective is yours to determine. Most individuals lack the capacity, time, and motivation to follow and analyze news of the many simple questions that abide in our dance scene. But many of them and their close dance friends often directly experience most of the dance social pleasures and problems. These limitations are made worse by a news media that tends to over-simplify or over-complicate issues and to reinforce stereotypes, partisan viewpoints, and prejudices. As a consequence, we believed that the public needs the information and photo contributors in our blogs.

"Shores Of Haleiwa" by Loyal Garner

Our people can also observe as participants, and help to guide our friends and fellow dancers to a deeper understanding of what is really important in our dance environment. The problem is the "commitment" and they think there is a commitment. So we must slowly make them aware that there is no commitment and can blog only whenever they damn well please. All we do is provide the platform. With enough contributors we can make any blog into the great one. From there it is easy to make that blog into an independent entity and I can resign to devote my time to the "Junk" blogs.

"Dancing in all its forms cannot be excluded from the curriculum of all noble
education; dancing with the feet, with ideas, with words, and, need I add
that one must also be able to dance with the pen. ~ Friedrich Nietzsche

Dancing is an integral part of life itself. Insects, birds and other animals have always danced before mating time. Apes have been know to form circles and parade around a tree. But it was humans that developed dancing to rhythm and music at the beginning of Agriculture. Primitives made dancing the expression of many kinds of emotion. The hunt, the birth of child, marriage and funeral rites. the worship of the Gods were all accompanied by appropriate dances. There is no record of any primitive group. where dancing was not an important part of their tribal culture.

DAL Midweek, July 9th.

In the middle of year it is becoming obvious to me (I keep the pertinent stats) that there are more Web and Blog sites on Dancing in Oahu. Very, very few sites have hit counters, that can enable them to know how many people are hitting on their sites. My estimate from my past experience is all get single digit average per day hits. That is 9 hits or less per day for most web and blog sites. Easy to prove me wrong, just put a counter on and yes I know, they go up and down rather erratically.

"Social dancers know that if you are quick on your feet with a good partner,
stay near the outside of the dance floor."

Next are the Information Contributors. Anyone can do it. Just email what ever you think we could share with our fellow dancers. The info and/or photos and you can pick the blog of your choice.  I can post it to the blogs and we may have many different viewpoints which is social media. There will be many different favorite people in the photos and what we will be doing is sharing these different viewpoints with our fellow dancers. And I try to get additional comments from anyone to share. This is social media.

Last, I am getting old and my time is coming to a close. I need some people to take over my best blog. Anybody that decides they are willing, just email me, I will notify Blogger and they will send the invitation to you. The password is between you and them. Once you are in, I can coach you by email. Four or five good Guest Bloggers and you can all inform me that you accept my resignation. You are taking over.

Since its inception, this blog has been trying to cope with the most essential question regarding Latin music: What is Latin music? Most social, cultural dancers are aware that only the DJs in town seem to have a good sense of it. However, many dancers dance to the beat which is fair enough. If you can dance Rumba to it, why not? " How about "From Here To Eternity" by Englebert Humperdinck? Wow. However, it not like dancing to da reel teeng,  "You must dance Rumba to it."

"Social dancers follow the line of dance, it’s kind of like a traffic pattern for dancing!"

DAL Midweek, July 2nd.

The Internet is very good but it is also a minefield for the unsuspecting. Be careful of where you enter and don't give them any information. They use it for their benefit not yours. I interact with Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr and Word Press, just to get the Word out, it is slow, but I am getting a little more feedback to share with our fellow dancers. Group opinions are essentially the same and they may come to a head through one person.

"Social dancers have few negatives, but they are definitely not with ear-deafening
and mind-numbing music that intentionally all sounds the same."

That one person may only contribute "his or her opinion" only once and perhaps even twice. They do not wish to get involved with what they think is a commitment. These are usually very well accepted opinions. Public opinion in contemporary usage, is the aggregate of individual attitudes or beliefs held by populations such as the island of Oahu. While consumer opinion is the similar aggregate collected as part of marketing research, opinions of users of a particular product or service.

"Crazy" by Melveen Leed

Typically, because the process of gathering opinions from all individuals is difficult, expensive, or impossible to obtain, public opinion (or consumer opinion) is estimated using survey sampling (e.g., with a representative sample of a population). For us the perfect communication settles down to five or less blogs and each with ten or less Guest Authors. But we could achieve pretty close to agreement in the enjoyment of dancing in our cultural dance environment. And with easy acceptance of all the other styles out there. Hey, hey, we are rolling in the right direction.

"Social dancers believe that a pessimist sees the difficult in every opportunity
while an optimist may see the opportunity in every difficulty."
