DAL Midweek, April 30th

Dance And Live is finally getting defined which has been easy. It is just a weekly schedule of dancing events on Oahu. The midweek blog is just sort of an update. And only whatever I can get. Some people have their own methods of communicating to this vast audience of dancers on Oahu. I have heard mention of around 40 thousand dancers social, exhibition and competition dancers. We can all guess what they wish to see, I haven't got around to finding out about photos.

helps them to be more humble and compassionate of others."

Now, just this last month, all of a sudden this blog finds itself with it's own readers. It does get some search engines from Twitter and Facebook. Again, the Guest Bloggers will help to define the blog even more clearly, we just have to be patient.  Who knows? With enough  Guest Bloggers the hits will run up ahead of all the other blogs and make this blog ready for independence. And yes we are getting some news from the neighbor islands.

We also have to realize that the vast majority of our people are "social" dancers and not inclined to be exhibition and competition dancers. Some of "our" people do get into that, and there should be no hu hu, just accept any of them that wish to be a part of our group. We all accept the fact that they can be part of our dance community, they do not run it. Many of them could be good Guest Bloggers.

The blogs are getting some information contributors willing to share their pearls of information with our reader dancers. But of course I do not get enough and I have to do the best I can and I am limited physically. From there I would like to get a Guest Author as an example for the rest of the possibles. I cannot live forever and the blogs can belong to a nice group of dancers residents of Oahu. I want to let go of my best blog. Once we can establish that and watch the hits go into the stratosphere, we will be certain of what to do.

For now getting a few more Information and Photo contributors is very necessary.We must share our dance environment with our fellow dancers. That is what a social media blog is all about. Some potential contributors have their own way of doing it and it must be respected. We should respect everyone's opinions. But in the blogs they can be prominently displayed for all to see and read. And of course that leads to more readers and in return it should lead into more Guest Authors and more of our blogs will go independent.

DAL Midweek, April 24th

I was at one time a dancer myself, and I started these blogs for the sole purpose of spreading the love for dancing as far and wide as possible. I really just wanted these blogs to be the sort of resource I wish I  had had when I started dancing, Think of it, with 100% free and unbiased knowledge for all who seek to learn. But it isn't just me, everyone has an opinion. And we all know, that opinions are like noses, everyone has got one. This make us all valuable.

And get to know themselves better, appreciate the music and

their bodies moving, working together to really dance."

At the moment our dance groups consists of very few people. No one has ever had to think about feedback. But this group that is developing consists of great dancers and hard workers who have been willing to contribute their time and a few items of information or photos. Our blogs will be somewhat partisan but not affiliated in any way with any products, brands, or organizations. We will never write a fake review to please the wrong people. and we'll never endorse anything we don't truly believe in. We put our hearts into these blogs, and we hope you will enjoy them and share with others who might like it as well!

Most of us are somewhat aware of being a Social Dancer but we don't really know what it means. It does means that we are aware of our own limitations and the limitations of others – without prejudice or judgement. It means that limitations are not problems, but things to be explored, improved, or worked around. It is evolving into a culture of lifting up ourselves and others – not tearing them down. Being a social dancer means we prize connection over aesthetics, kindness over ego, and people over movements. After all, being a great social dancer has less to do with being an amazing technical dancer, and more to do with creating nice things between ourselves and our fellow dancers..

WHEN IT IS APPROPRIATE TO SAY NO?
When a person asks you for a dance, it is appropriate to say no under a few circumstances: If you are really tired when someone asks you to dance, say that you are taking a rest now and would be happy to dance later. Then be sure to keep this commitment. If you come to the dance to watch and someone asks you to dance, it is fine to say, “Thank you, but I’m just watching tonight.” If the same person asks you to dance repeatedly, it is acceptable to tell him or her that you would like to dance with others right now and would enjoy another dance later. We can get along just fine.

DAL Midweek, April 16th

These blogs have never been properly defined simply because they were mainly me and that's no good. The blogs get a few outside opinions but not enough to define themselves clear enough. This blog has been the easiest one to define because it is just a schedule, of the contacts I have been able to make. The legit hits are coming in clear now that most of the scam spam robots hits have been eliminated. Our best blog remains Town Dancer perhaps because at one time we had the best blogger in Hawaii blogging.

At one time they had a nice Cinco De Mayo celebration at Dot's in Wahiawa. And for several years they had a block party at Just Tacos in Mililani. But we hear nothing now, it is all downtown. This celebration serves to bring awareness to Oahu’s diverse population of 130,000 Hispanics from over 22 nations This celebration will showcase the diversity of Latino culture in Hawaii and includes music, dance, cuisine and the arts.

Cinco de Mayo is probably the holiday most often celebrated that no one understands. Literally "the Fifth of May," Cinco de Mayo is a Mexican Holiday celebrating the Battle of Puebla, which took place on May 5, 1862, one hundred and fifty years ago. France had sent a massive army to invade Mexico. The French army was much larger, better trained and equipped than the Mexicans struggling to defend the road to Mexico City. It rolled through Mexico until it reached Puebla, where the Mexicans made a valiant stand, and, against all logic, won a huge victory.

Social dancers desire to create, - channeling their energy into a beautiful experience that is always present and never replicated in any other place that is not a dance floor. And, unlike many things, they choose to create these magical musical experiences with a partner..Being a social dancer means looking inward – not outward. It means feeling, and being ready to feel, all the sensations around them, the music and the environment.

The Even Step: once known as the one step is just left, right, left, right and you can keep on going this way on every beat of the music to the end. We have the even step available in over ten thousand different dances throughout the world and is probably the oldest of the dance moves. You can have an even step as one, two, one two, (Merengue?) or one, two, three, (Waltz?) or one, two, three, four, (Fox Trot.) And you can accent any count you wish. From the Even step, evolved the Rock Step and the Chaissé.

DAL Midweek, April 10th

Social dance, depending on how it is defined, may refer to a wide variety of partner dances. On Oahu most of us are well aware of them, from our basic dances in the American Style of dance. Typically it includes the Smooth such as waltz or foxtrot, and Latin dances such as Cha  Cha Cha and the Rumba. Standard dances are normally danced to straight-beat, Western music and the couples dance around the floor, Latin dances are normally danced off-beat to Latin music and maybe "spot" danced. Terrific for night club dancing. Social dancers have accepted Salsa and Bachata as proper additions to their social menu.

For beginners at any age: You are with  a nice crowd and you have never been much interest in dancing. Now with a few drinks you want to move to the music and there are so many nice people on the floor moving to music. If you're not sure what to do on the dance floor, just "bounce to the beat". You do this by bending your knees slightly and then standing back up to the beat. This can be a very small move that makes you look like you're just bobbing along to the music, or a much larger, pronounced motion where you're exaggerating the bends and the pauses.Try shifting your body from side to side so you don't look like a buoy in the water. It is a beginning to enjoy moving to music.

Dancing, that is. moving to some kind of beat and the sound of a musical instrument began about ten thousand years ago but it was all "solo." Then about one thousand years ago, they began to dance in pairs, boy and girl. But both just holding one hand of their partner, and "embracing" each other at the beginning and at end of the dance. A couple centuries later, nobles and wealthy patricians danced as couples in procession in a slow dignified manner in a circle. Farmers and lower classes of society danced turning in a lively, springing fashion. So are we ready for line dancing? They teach it at the Wahiawa Recreation Center.

Q: What do you call a boom-a-rang, that doesn't come back?
A: A Stick.

Improve Your Social Life: As the name suggests, social dancing on Oahu improves your social life. Joining a dance class will allow you to interact with new people every week and you will meet more people each time you go out. Lucky you have so many choices on Oahu, Dance studios, dance clubs and even night clubs. You will find it easy to meet people while dancing and an amazing way to make new friends, and increase your social circle. As another bonus, social dancing can help to prevent feelings of loneliness –due to the sociability of dancing with a partner.

can certainly hear what many of you say and then we must move accordingly."

All I can do is provide the platform. With enough Guest Bloggers on one blog we can average many hits per day. From there it is easy to make the blog into an independent entity and the hits will go through the roof. I am not going live forever, so I can resign and devote my time to the "Junk" blogs. Right at this moment, with more information coming in from West Oahu, we are setting a perfect example. Communication to and from the reader/dancers is of prime importance. We do not exist for any other reason. We are going to be Social Media one of these days.
