DAL Midweek, January 30th.

"When it first began, a blog was a simple online diary, where the blogger would
pen down his or her thoughts. This definition has evolved and we will
continue to redefine it for us, the social dancers of Hawaii."

We have this nice blog as a directory of what the week has to offer for us, the social dancers, covering the calendar week from Sunday to Saturday and I publish on every Saturday. Of course, we welcome anyone and any one can attend,  I personally cannot get around much anymore but I can blog'em. So all I need is for someone to communicate the information to me by email and I will post to the appropriate blog. The average hits per day and all the blogs are going up slowly but surely. Whenever we get outside feedback the hits go through the roof.

“Social dancers know that sometimes they focus on the lyrics too much
and forget to dance to the music.”

Town is pretty well covered and if they do not want to say anything, I believe they should do as they please, no hu hu. We are very much interested in dancing in Makaha, Kapolei, Makapuu Point and Turtle Bay. The four corners of the earth for us on the island of Oahu.  Because I now live in Mililani, there is going to be more action on the North Shore and the Waianae Coast. Not to mention the Central Valley, Wow. We must be patient. Let me know and I will find a way to be there and blog'em.

I continue to help wherever I can and I do have choices. I have some that are easy to help and some that are difficult. Which do I help the most? Guess. The Social Dancer is coalescing very nicely on this Island. If we include all the peripherals, we are perhaps 80 - 90 percent of the entire dance scene on Oahu. We are the "to have fun" group. That is our primary purpose. If we leave out the young and their fan dances, we mean no offense, we merely respect their kuleana,

"Stop acting as if life is a rehearsal. live this day as if it were your last.
the past is over and gone. the future is not guaranteed."

Blogger: Most individuals lack the capacity, time, and motivation to follow and analyze news of the many simple questions that abide in our dance environment. But many of them and their close dance friends often directly experience most of the dance social pleasures and problems. These limitations are made worse by an ordinary news media that tends to over-simplify or over-complicate issues and to reinforce stereotypes, partisan viewpoints, and prejudices. We just may be able to do something in our blogs?

"Happy are those who dream dreams and are ready to pay the price to make
them come true. Blogging is becoming an art, same as any other method
of self-expression. Some are better at it than others."

"Sorry, We don't serve your type here."

Rudolph Labans, in the early 20th century is generally accepted as the first analyst of dance movements and all of his results have been found in the ancient Olmec civilization records. A slow step or a quick step was defined even then. How about a rock step or a chasse? Hey, from way back. It has now been fully realized that no one has a patent on any dance movement. What ever you can think up today has been done hundreds, perhaps thousands of times before. Yet many Professionals are very jealous of having their material copied by others. "What fools these mortals be."

DAL Midweek, January 23rd.

By Asuka Shinozaki, Nuuanu Valley
In Japan, the new century has brought in it's dance fever -- Asian style. Young and old are polishing their tangos and waltzes and doing it the old-fashioned way, the old is making a comeback. They have had several decades of International Style of Dance along with their own versions of the different dances. Now they are following the English in England into the American style and find it closer to their own style and a comfortable fusion is occurring.

“Social dancers can imagine life to be a dance with different kinds of rhythms
depending on what music is playing in the background."

Not surprising as the Americans have been there for almost eight decades. The dance has been developing in their culture over the years and like most dances, they are to enjoy the music by moving the body in the same timing and rhythm. The International has developed into a series of poses as an entertainment commodity, beautiful but quite a different product. The internationals think that theirs is real Ballroom dancing because they dance in ballrooms and of course, it is an Art. Both for show and for competitions it is a "must" be seen and judged.

 "Tennessee Waltz" by Patti Page

And inadvertently a third type of group has been created, the viewers, the spectators. With the dance shows that have developed on Television, they have "intentionally" promoted and evolved a big group of viewers, not much in the dancing department but they want to see the shows and of course judge it with their meager capabilities. This group will not continue to grow. But now in Japan they are discovering a most welcome invention, the American Style of Dance, now they can go back to dancing for fun only. Amazing!

"Many of life's failures are people who did not realize
how close they were to success when they gave up."

The clubs and bars on Oahu do pretty good business every day of the week, after all there are maybe 90,000 tourists and almost a million residents on this island. But we know that most locals party Thursday through Saturday nights, not so much on Sunday. The main difference is many bars won't have their usual live music or even DJs. So we are trying to find one to put into our Sunday spot.

DAL Midweek, January 16th.

Do you have a social dance, dance studio or dance night club? Do you offer dance information that the dancers would like to know about.? For almost a century on Oahu, dance information has been by word of mouth. newsletters and posters on bulletin boards. Our top developer for this blog has not thought of everything we need to create a "schedule" blog site that will impress our reader/dancers. But we need this blog site and can be assured that, however the users access the blog site, the look and quality will stay almost the same.

“Social dancers' advice for life: dance and sing your song while the party is still on.”

Dance and Live has been setup to be publish every Saturday with the coming dance attractions of the calendar week, Sunday through Saturday. The list of menus will make our finished blog site easy to navigate, and user-friendly, encouraging people to return. Spread the word about your dance group in this blog site and watch your members increase and go from strength to strength.

The dance scene is becoming the most liked, trusted and fastest growing group on Oahu, with more than 30 thousand dancers and heading to 40 thousand by the end of the decade. Social, exhibition and competition dancers and the specialties such as line, country, tango and swing dancers. And now we have Web and Blog sites, and Micros (Twitter, Facebook etc.) No language barriers. No animosity. Just pure, awe-inspiring movement to music. We, the dancers need your feedback. We continue working to provide you with a list of venues, events and times for your happy feet. Browse this blog, and let us know all that we’ve missed. We’ll add whatever if it does require fifteen pages. But you all know what we mean. Most dancing places are doing quite well without us. So I must try to help wherever I can and I am open to suggestions. I was invited to the shindig in Wahiawa by the Wahiawa Ballroom Dance Club, and I am making three blogs with all the photos I got.

We will continue working to provide you with a list of venues, events and times for your happy feet. Browse this blog, and let us know all that we’ve missed. We’ll add it for you. Line dancing is progressing along very nicely But of course it is slow going and we cannot get enough information to share with the readers. A Playlist? A couple years ahead of its time for the rest of the dance groups and I am not sure if it is needed. Most dancing places are doing quite well without me. So I must try to help wherever I can and I am open to suggestions.
