Week Ending Saturday, January 5th, 2019

Again we have every thing jumbled up and our readers already have several offerings for everyday of the week. I will have to hustle to get something for the following week. Rest assured the social dancing has been evolving very nicely in the past. The year 2019 looks very promising for the island of Oahu, and perhaps getting close to 50,000 dancers going at it full blast. And there will more live music to enjoy. In the Social Dancing World there are so many different dances that it’s hard to get an overall picture of all the different types of Ballroom dance styles that are out there. While there are many Latin and Ballroom dances, most of them can fit into at least one category or style.

“In the Social Dance world, you're not allowed to have legs and not use them.
- So Dance.”

I have included the most popular Social dances based on the American Syllabi. This is a style that is mainly danced in the United states but it is gaining popularity in other parts of the world. It’s main purpose was to make social dancing easy to lead and follow. It is danced both socially and competitively almost like the International style. The Ballroom dances that fall under this style are broken down into 2 groups: American Rhythm Dances which are favored more by the young than the American Smooth.

"Our Lips Are Sealed" by the Go-Go's (1981)

Cha Cha Cha is a must dance for the social dancer. This dance is a fun and cheeky dance emphasizing the quick, concise foot and leg actions. Rumba, another must that has a sensual feeling with lots of hip and body action, sometimes referred to as “Cuban motion.” Swing (East Coast) has a very energetic feel to it with lots of turns and spins for both partners and a favorite with most social dancers. Bolero is the slowest of the Rhythm dances and has a very graceful way of moving with rise and fall and lots of shaping however not a favorite of the social dancer. Mambo is fast with lots of body actions and ticks to accentuate the Latin music. Losing much interest in the last thirty years because of Salsa and Bachata which has come in strong in this century.

Week Ending Saturday, December 29th.

We’re working to provide you with a list of venues, events and times for your happy feet. Browse this blog, and let us know all that we’ve missed. We’ll add it for you. For this week we will eliminate the dance schedule. Most readers already have several functions to attend this Christmas week and there are plenty. However this a nice place to introduce the Blogger platform that is easy to set up and is also intuitive. Blogger is typically used for more text-heavy posts, but also does images which is all we do in our five blogs.

"Social dancers believe that you should dance while you can. Dance for the
music is catching and will not stop, the moves are easy. Dance till
the stars come down from the rafters - dance till you drop.”

I am specially eager to find dancers willing to help with the Blogging. You can start as a "Two Center" if you are just willing to email your two cents of information to share with the readers. I can coach by email. Next step is Guest Blogger whenever you think you are ready. You decide and I send your email address to Blogger. And they email you and if you accept, the password is between you and Blogger. Then you have your own blog within our blog with ready made readers.

Design is easy to set up and offers a lot of customization options, especially with colors and fonts. I can give you many graphics that you can use. I can coach you along the way. If you want to go further, there are a ton of pre-made Blogger templates available from great designers. The Blogger platform allows for more growth than other blogs. Here, you can set up multiple pages and multiple blogs that are easy to maintain. Blogger is free, and you'd only have to worry about domain registration.

But we know that most locals party Thursday through Saturday nights, not so much on Sunday. The main difference is many bars won't have their usual live music or even DJs. So we are trying to find one to put into our Sunday spot.

"Social dancers believe that there are things that the heart thinks of
that only the body understands; that is why we dance.”

However this blog, Dance And Live is only a mini mini version of all this gigantic stuff around us, So, if that item of yours in our blog did not reach Afghanistan or Nigeria, we must accept it. Fortunately most of our reader /dancers do not mind. I am just fine in sharing interesting items and communicating with our fellow dancers on this Island. Perhaps a few in the neighbor islands would be nice too.

There are many akamai groups that are going to understand using this blog for it's intended purposes, for the benefit of all of us. The best and first thing connecting us with our fellow dancer are the photos. You can pick them and get a few in. Email them and I will blog'em. Of course, I will take my camera to some functions and if anyone wants to take a picture of a few of our fellow dancers, you can use it. If you have an item or interest you would like to share with the readers. Email it in.

aware of themselves  and dance their way in a manner
that is decided by their hearts. ”
