Bar Life

Rumours Night Club, one of my first favorites shortly after my arrival in Hawaii in 1978. Rumours since then has been the site of thousands of parties, pau hana gatherings and more than few high school dances. The club's last day in business will be on January, 28th and it will close after 34 years. It had been known in more recent years for attracting an older crowd with oldies but goodies music and a laid back atmosphere. As far as I am concerned it was still a popular place to go.

"Social dancers believe that if endangered people
have their dance they will never die.”

Millennials, also known as Generation Y, born roughly between 1980-2000. On Oahu, it may include people in their early 40s. Hell, some of my grandchildren are in their forties. Millennials are likely the most studied and talked about generation to date. They are the first generation in history that have grown up totally immersed in a world of digital technology, which has shaped their identities and created lasting political, social and cultural attitudes. Like every other generation, Millennials display generalized and unique traits that make them different from their predecessors.

Nightclub owners in the US are finding it difficult to keep their doors open when a large portion of their clientele only stops by occasionally and skimps on drink orders. Dancers on Oahu are notoriously known as non drinkers. On the Mainland, some clubs have set up Juice Bars with moderate success. It comes to no surprise that an average of all venues on the Mainland have been breaking down earlier and earlier each night and officially closing up shop before passing the first year mark in their business.

"Social dancers are aware that men can be very good dancers, IF they want to."
